KILN FIRED orchid SOLD
Stained Glass Window CIRCA 1890This beautiful KILN FIRED HAND PAINTED old window Has outlived its original frame and been placed in a BEAUTIFUL pine frame for display. It was removed from a house near BROADWAY In the COTSWOLDS during refurbishement. BROADWAY VILLAGE is said to have been "discovered" by William Morris. A village of corn coloured stone, lying at to bottom of the steep escarpment at the edge of the Cotswolds. From Morris onwards, artists have drawn inspiration from the line and form, the textures and the composition, of what was then a typical English village. The village has tried to remain as unchanged as possible under the pressures of modern tourism. The "broad way" is the main street that is lined with red chestnut trees. The village originally grew up as a stage coach stop The coloured glass is of a heavy and deep texture and has no crack or chips The central medallion is framed in Victorian red glow glass. This glass seems to glow with a light of its own in the half light at dawn or dusk or sometimes on a cloudy day. The truly beautiful colours of each small pane of glass can only be imagined with sunlight falling on it. The hand painted picture in the central medallion is crisp & bright with little sign of fading. The frame measures 26"W x 20 1/2H The glass measures 21 " x 15 1/2" Shipping and packing for USA would be $149 Including full insurance for loss and damage.
