The beauty of stained glass windows is as with all art forms in the eye of the beholder. In most artforms, however, the end result is influenced far less by the materials used than the leaded lighte or stained glass window.

The production of Stained glass is of itself an art form. The metallic salts used in the glass manufacturing process were combined according to the flair of the alchemist with magnificent individual results. No two sheets of glass were ever exactly the same. Each sheet would have its own character to the point of being as alive in its structure as timber.

The quality of the light passing through the glass is of itself often sufficient to imbue an atmosphere to the room beyond. A second artist is, of course, needed to create the window. It is a pity that nothing today can match the aesthetic quality of the antique stained glass window.

May I give you a toast:  To the room beyond the window.
